Luca C & Brigante feat. Róisín Murphy – Flash of Light
Southern Fried Records at the moment are to put it lightly, absolutely smashing it. After hearing Solomun drop his remix of this absolute wonderment from Luca C and Brigante, featuring the sultry lyrical styling of Róisín Murphy’, it was one of those moments when you actually feel that a release might have a bigger impact than just one of those tracks that you think ‘banger’ at the time but then forget about after a fortnight. ‘Flash of light’ really has strong potential to be a future anthem, the original has a slow powerful punchy bass line and kick drum, Roison’s vocals are something seriously special. She has real depth to her voice, there’s a kind of Annie Lennox richness there, the overlay of retro chords just finish off the original version perfectly. Solomun, recently voted Best Producer at the DJ Awards in Ibiza, is quite rightfully the man of the moment after one hell of a summer – with his Sankeys Diynamic Neon Nights in Ibiza being an outstanding success he has also solidly churned out hit after hit. Never straying from his own very determined strain of Diynamic house, always delectable packages of funky, groove filled, house monsters; his take on ‘Flash of Light’ is the anthem in the making, without overshadowing the incredible vocals, the hook and the bass on this is just ridiculously catchy. It really penetrates the surface – it’s so FRESH it’s unreal. Also on the package are remixes from Tale of Us and London based double trouble girl duo Blond:sh who do a bit of a spin out deep house number on it (an eerily attractive deep remix). One of the best things we’ve potentially heard all year.
